This is the opening of a fun piece I worked on a few years ago in #Accra #Ghana about the Rolling Rockets skate soccer team. These guys can’t walk and beg on the streets but on Sunday’s they don their kit and go play a form of football. It’s amazing and inspiring to watch. . . . I do love making sports films like this.
Starting 2020 with a throwback to the time I I made a documentary about LA county hospital. It was a fascinating assignment and I learned a lot about gun shot wounds! This is a short excerpt from the film. . . . #filmmakers #travel #travelphotography #cameraman #newsphotog #photog #news #documentary #filmmaking #filmmaker #film #cinematography #director #cinematographer
So that’s a wrap for 2019 on social media. . . I’m going to take Insta off my phone for a week. See you in the new year.
So to wrap up my highlights of #2019 here are some clips from my favourite film I made this year - Murder Town - the story behind Cape Town’s murder epidemic. . . @vauldi and I spent the best part of a week in the Mother City filming with families of victims, the police and the army. It was emotional stuff but I think we did the people involved justice with our finished film. . . I’m going to remove Instagram from my phone now until New Year’s Day. See you in 2020.
As we approach Christmas I wanted to post two short excerpts from two different films that I shot and edited for the BBC in 2014 - examining the centenary of the famous Christmas truce on the western front. It was powerful and fascinating to tell this story. . . I’m always looking for ways to bring stories to life through the structure and the visuals. . . #filmmakers #travel #travelphotography #cameraman #newsphotog #photog #news #documentary #filmmaking #filmmaker #film #cinematography
As I contemplate my next moves and what may happen in 2020 I’m looking back through some fun pieces I’ve done over the last few years. This one was a blast - filming with Tiger ( @blackcrystalink ) and @thatodjheels at a tattoo studio in Soweto. . . For the fellow geeks amongst you this was shot on a Sony A7S and DJI Osmo and edited in FCPX.
